Kansas City's Original Boutique Hotel
The Raphael was voted one of the 2012 T+L 500 World's Best Hotels by readers of Travel+Leisure magazine. Kansas City's acclaimed boutique hotel was the only hotel in the six-state region named to the list. Elegance and charm ooze from this nine-story architectural landmark. A rich history combined with vintage hospitality, highly-individualized service and thoroughly modern amenities make it a first choice for business and leisure travelers seeking a uniquely Kansas City experience.
Originally opened as Villa Serena Apartment in 1928, the Italian Renaissance Revival style structure was designed to complement the nascent Country Club Plaza. A total renovation was concluded in December 2009 at a cost exceeding the property’s original development cost in today’s currency. A subsequent renovation of the Lobby was completed in February, 2011 to create distinctly different conversation areas and to give guests a heightened sense of history and place.
Today’s Raphael carries forward a legacy that embodies the spirit of Europe’s finest small hotels and the distinct charm of its Country Club Plaza neighborhood. The landmark structure is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It is also affiliated as an iconic historic hotel in the Marriott Autograph Collection, a portfolio of distinctive independent hotels offering Marriott Rewards.
Features of Kansas City's historic Plaza hotel include 126 guest rooms and suites, boutique scale meeting spaces that can accommodate up to 12 in an executive boardroom and up to 40 for banquets in a gracious room overlooking The Plaza, a modern fitness center and a 24-hour business center.
The Raphael’s signature restaurant, Chaz on the Plaza, features regional American cuisine and a well-edited wine list including international, California and surprisingly pleasant regional wines. The lounge is inviting and is a showcase six nights per week for the diverse sound of authentic KC jazz and other music genres performed by local composers and musicians.
