Just 20 minutes east of downtown Kansas City located along Interstate 70 is the community of Blue Springs, Missouri. In the past three years the business and development environment has burst forth with coordinated efforts among City officials, developers and planners and businesses to work together in every area of the city to foster managed growth, development, redevelopment, including revitalization of the city’s downtown.

Our most recent news is the announcement of the Missouri Innovation Park at Blue Springs.  The Blue Springs Economic Development Corporation (EDC) in conjunction with the City of Blue Springs, Missouri, will develop a 500+ acre science and technology innovation park that will provide a clustered focus for knowledge based innovation and commercialization in Western Missouri.

This knowledge-based community will be anchored by a long-term collaboration with the University of Missouri (MU), as its anchor research tenant, in accordance with a Memorandum of Understanding recently signed by the Blue Springs EDC, the City of Blue Springs, and MU. MU will establish a Mizzou Innovation Center at the Missouri Innovation Park to consolidate MU’s various activities in the region.

It is expected that this current renaissance of investment will bring the city’s population to 75,000 residents within the next 10-12 years while also attracting hundreds of new businesses to the community. Today’s population trends offer a growth rate of 5.3% over the next 5 years, which is expected to increase as more retail and housing/neighborhood choices come online.

Blue Springs offers vitality and imagination as it undertakes it numerous initiatives driven by involved residents and businesses who are intent to capture regional attention as the community begins implementing its citizen-led visioning strategy: Renew The Blue. This community vision led by citizens and involving the city and numerous organizations, including the City, Chamber of Commerce, Blue Springs Economic Development Corporation and Blue Springs School District and higher education, calls for major initiatives to improve the quality of life and business environment for Blue Springs over the next 15-20 years. Many of these initiates are now underway and are guided by the goal to maintain a balance between environment and growth that support progress and preservation of local history and identity.
